Elecronic time clocks keep time with a printed circuit board that is programmed to automaically advance the time at the end of each month.  Most clocks also advance time automatically for daylight savings changes.

An electronic clock has many fewer moving parts than a mechanical clock.  Due to the electronic circuit board, clocks in this category do not perform as well in a dirty environment.
